| Party Time, on the Beach and in the Design District |

| Thursday night is Aby's night, at least in the art world |

| In the Design District, the most coveted invitation of the night: the Moore Building for Craig Robins |
Dec 1 Thu By now we all know that Thursday night is Aby's night. Aby Rosen is a mega collector, and also part owner of the fabulous W South Beach Hotel. On Thursday, by invitation only, there is a dinner party for friends, colleagues, artists, gallery owners and assorted stars. And this is happening at The Dutch, anoff-shoot of the New York restaurant beloved by food critics. Following the dinner there is a second event, a dance-all-night party, by invitation only, at Wall, the disco in the W. This one has a Vito Schnabel connection, so expect many Schnabels as well as European Jet Setters.
Dec 1 Thu The hottest invitation for the design world on Thursday night is the Montblanc dinner for Craig Robins in the Moore Building, 40th Street and NE Second Avenue. Expected to attend, the architect Zaha Hadid (whose Elastica installation, seen above, has inhabited the atrium of the Moore Building for several years), the designer Christian Louboutin, all of the design stars in town, including David Adjaye, the designated Designer of the Year. DJ will be Paul Sevigny. 7:30 p.m. Invitation only.
Thursday night is, more than any other night, the Design District's turn. If you don't have a car, take a taxi (about $25 from South Beach) and do the Design District this night. But that doesn't mean that Miami Beach slows down. By Thursday the heavy duty art world buying, selling and bargaining is done and people are ready to let down their hair and relax.

| Alessi opening in the Design District |
Alessi is joining the other 25 high-end Italian furniture brands in opening a store in the Design District. (Before now, locals could buy Alessi at Luminaire, or at other Miami design stores.) If you have invitations to events in the Design District, here is the plan: start at Alessi. Then go to Luminaire (event from 6 to 9 pm), stop in at the upstart design fair, Inventory, in the Melin Building, jog down to the Nektar De Stagni shop (VIP party begins at 7 pm), for works by Bhakti Baxter, Aranda/Lasch, Jim Drain, and Martin Oppel, among others. (Nektar De Stagni Shop. 155 Ne 38th St.) Then two blocks west is the new Poltrona Frau building, an $8 million commitment to the Design District. Poltrona Frau is the umbrella company that includes Cappellini, Cassina, Gufram and other collectible furniture lines. It claims its address is 3800 NE Miami Court, but no one will ever find that. The entrance is near the corner of 38th Street, and a one-block street that ends with the former Genius Jones, or NIBA home. (And speaking of NIBA, Thursday night is an invitation only show, open from 6 to 9, and celebrating new Design Icons. Niba is at 39 NE 39th Street) The Poltrona Frau party is from 7 pm to 10 pm, and you really must see the Philippe Starck chandelier for Baccarat. Within walking distance from Poltrona Frau (it's a little treacherous on N Miami Avenue, because of the construction; better to go back the NE First Avenue, and under I-195.) Now you're in Midtown, with lots of restaurants and Spotify’s “Art Loves Music” (sponsored by Perrier) at the new Midtown night spot, the Ricochet Lounge: On Wednesday night, Nas, Theophilus London, TV on the Radio, and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. No cover charge. Open to the public. Or, hop in a cab or a car and finish the night at Cafeina where Refinery29 (fashion, beauty, shopping)l whatever that means, will be on from 9 pm to 2 am. There is a $5 admission charge after 10 pm. Cafeina is at 297 NW 23rd Street, Wynwood, Miami.
