| Try the Delano, Shore Club, Setai |
You wanted to stay at the Delano this week? You can. Hotels like the Delano and the Raleigh always hold rooms back, and this year more than ever there are cancellations. Last year, rooms were left at the last minute with a partial ocean view for $1,875. We didn't say a room was cheap, we said it might be available. The Setai may still have that three-bedroom suite for $6,000.
The new hotel this year is the W South Beach, and practically every important artist/gallery/entity is having a party there. Figure this place is going to jammed. And hopping. The hotel is also completely full. Try couch surfing if you're partying there late.
Don't forget the Mondrian South Beach, designed by Marcel Wanders, or the more reasonable the Standard, which had rooms available as late as November 31 for $411. Don't expect an outdoor bathtub at that price. And remember that during Basel, hotels usually demand a four-day minimum.
On Miami Beach, you might try the following hotels:
Hotel St. Augustine, 347 Washington Avenue (midrange, ask if they have any cancellations) Hotel Astor, 956 Washington Avenue (midrange) Wave, 350 Ocean Drive (midrange) The Strand Hotel, 1050 Ocean Drive (midrange) Marriott South Beach, 161 Ocean Drive (high) The Shore Club, 1901 Collins (high) The National, 1677 Collins (high) The Impala, 1228 Collins (budget) The Century, 140 Ocean Drive (budget) La Flora, 1238 Collins (budget) The Albion, 1650 James Avenue (midrange) The Anglers, 635 Washington (high end) The Beacon, 720 Ocean Drive (midrange) Don't get fooled by the Days Inn; it's up on 41st Street
You might try Miami itself, since so much is happening there this year. The big hotel there is the Miami Marriott, at 16th and North Bayshore Drive, on the Bay. There is a Radisson on 16th and Biscayne Boulevard. But if you want to go low low budget, may we suggest the Motel Blu on Biscayne and 78th. This year, with the terrific Red Light restaurant and a revived interior, the motel is offering rooms for $75 a night. Go ahead, be brave. You're at an art fair.
And finally, if luxury is what you want, try the South Beach Luxury Hotel Group.

| Would You Like to See Something in a Nice House? |
 |
| This house can be yours this week |
|
| You don't really experience a place until you live there. Why not live in a real house this week? Condos on Miami Beach from Kevin Tomlinson are one way to go, but there are charming houses (entire houses, with back yards) for rent as well. The house at left is near Biscayne and 50th street, and there are other houses in the Design District itself. Email Jane to ask exact prices, but houses like this run around $300 a night, come with two or three bedrooms, and are as clean as hotel rooms. If you're lucky there will be a grapefruit tree in the back yard and you can pick breakfast.
