About MA2Dweek, Miami Art Architecture & Design Week
Art Loves Design Marc Newson/Richard Patterson

By 2006 it was becoming clear that there needed to be a central clearing house for events during Art Basel, and a web site that would report important news and become a switchboard for conversations about Miami Basel. It was at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York, in May, 2007, that Linda Lee, a former editor at The New York Times, thought of MA2Dweek, a week that would encompass the Design Miami fair, the satellites, architecture events, music, film and everything else that now radiates out of Miami Basel.
The furniture fair in New York was once a trade fair in the Javits Center. Today parties, dinners, furniture exhibits, art exhibits, restaurant openings, street fairs take place around the furniture fair... the events stretch from the SoHo to the Upper East Side, and even to Brooklyn. The booklet put out for the furniture fair now runs 128 pages. The first MA2Dweek guide is only an eight-page brochure. But next year it will be much bigger. This is just the beginning.
