| ART BASEL MIAMI BEACH 2008 |
Art Basel Miami Beach is the largest art fair in America, a magnet for art collectors, jet setters, painters, party-goers, film makers, architects, photographers, museum heads, gallery owners and the just plain curious. The Art Basel web site, www.artbaselmiamibeach.com has complete listings of artists and galleries inside the Miami Beach Convention Center and at Art Positions, on the beach. But that is just the beginning of what is referred to as "Art Basel." In 2008 there is a bigger art show than the one inside the Convention Center, and that is at Midtown, where a whole city of tents have popped up to contain Photo Miami, Art Miami, Green Art Fair, Art Asia, and the Scope and Bridge art fairs. The 2008 event is beginning earlier than ever, with many parties and openings Tuesday night, especially Design Miami and all of its satellites. (This might mean that Monday will be the new Tuesday.) Wednesday Dec. 3 is the date of the Art Basel Vernissage (invitation only) and on Thursday the public starts pouring in (and some people say, the rich people leave). There are official parties, private dinner parties, dive bars that become art hangouts, and after party after after party. Enjoy your time here, even if you just came to look and not to buy. And come back next year.
